Prenatal Care

1st trimester Ultrasonogram /
nuchal translucency measurement

The 1st trimester examination is performed between the 11th and 14th gestation week and it is the most important ultrasound examination during pregnancy. The examination checks the growth of the foetus’ basic organs, assesses the exact gestation age, the number of foetuses, the risk for chromosomal anomalies, the likelihood of premature childbirth, preeclampsia and intra-uterine growth retardation (IUGR). The examination determines the growth/development and health of the foetus based on:

  • Nuchal translucency measurement
  • Presence of separate or shared placenta between foetuses in multiparity pregnancies
  • Measurement of the length of the uterine cervix
  • Thorough checks of all foetal organs.
