Electroencephalogram

During the examination small sensors are attached to the scalp to examine the electrical signals produced by the brain.

Electroencephalogram is most often used to diagnose epilepsy and other focal or diffuse brain damage.

It is also used to diagnose loss of consciousness, dizziness, memory disorders, etc.

Procedure

During the examination, sensors called electrodes are attached to the head the patient. The patient should be sitting in calmness.

Patient’s hair should be cleaned, without any styling products (hair spray, hair gel)

During the examination the patient should not move or speak, unless it is necessary.

Restrictions for the examination

You must inform your physician if the person examined:

  • is restless
  • is taking specific medication (sedatives etc.)
